Doctor or Coach For Perimenopause? You Need Both.

I've sat on both sides of this.

As your doctor, I have 15 minutes. Maybe 20 if I'm lucky. I listen to your chief complaint, I order labs, I review numbers, I rule out what's dangerous, I prescribe what's indicated. I try to squeeze in lifestyle advice, run out of time, and move on to the next patient. Not because I don't care. Because that's how the system is built.

And as a patient, you leave feeling a little better. Your hot flashes calm down. Your mood lifts. You sleep slightly more. You tell yourself you'll start strength training, walking, eating whole foods, meditating, setting boundaries. You try. You get overwhelmed. You stop. And eventually you decide that "good enough" is good enough.

Here's why this keeps happening though...

Perimenopause isn't one symptom you fix with one prescription. It's a system-wide shift: hormones, nervous system, sleep architecture, insulin sensitivity, mood regulation, cognitive load tolerance.

All of it is connected.

A 15-minute visit can stabilize the most urgent piece, but it can't untangle the whole picture. That takes time, context, and someone who can hold all of it with you.

That's the REwrite.

As your coach, we have time. We dig into what's actually happening in your body, not just what shows up on a standard panel. We connect your symptoms to your hormones, your nervous system, your patterns, your identity. We figure out why the strategies that used to work have stopped working, and we build something personalized for your body, your life, your season.

You leave feeling like your best self instead of settling for "good enough."

These two things are not in competition. You still need your doctor. But not every doctor has the time, training, or mandate to do what I do as your coach. One keeps you safe. One helps you thrive. Both matter.

One small goal this week: notice one symptom or pattern you've been chalking up to "just how it is now." Just notice it. That's the first step out of "good enough."

If you've ever left a doctor's appointment more confused than when you walked in, this is exactly why I built REwritten.

Why All-Or-Nothing Doesn't Work Anymore
I know the last 6 weeks I've been quiet over email, and slowly, I'll make my way back. But I do want to thank you all for being here. And for choosing to receive this weekly newsletter.  About a month ago our lives changed forever. Our dad went from living his retired physician life to intubated in the ICU. Like, wtf? We had 5 docs in the family who were heavily involved everyday. We had the be...
Where did your brain go?
You walk into a room and forget why. You lose the word mid-sentence. You reread the same email three times and have to remind yourself to really focus on the forth. If you are quietly terrified this is early dementia, take a breath. For most women in their late 30s and 40s, this is perimenopause. Estrogen is not just a reproductive hormone. It is deeply involved in memory, focus, and word reca...
At 39, I thought I was going crazy
Heart racing for no reason. Waking at 3 AM with your mind sprinting. Forgetting the word you have said ten thousand times. Crying at a commercial, then numb an hour later. At 39, I genuinely thought I was losing my mind. I am a physician. My labs were normal. And I still felt like a stranger in my own body. Here is what I needed someone to tell me: You are not crazy. You are not imagining it. Y...
